The Square Root Staking Plan

The square root plan can be a very effective plan, if the winners come thick and fast. The basic premise is to start off with a stake that is a certain percentage, (5%) of the bank. So if we start with £100, the initial stake will be £5. So every bet is £5, until our balance exceeds our initial starting balance, (£100). Once this occurs, we take the Square Root of the difference, and add that on to the next stake. This continues until, either the balance falls below the starting balance, (at which point the stake becomes £5 again) or the balance has grown to exceed the Starting Balance + 50%. At which point the 'Bank' becomes this figure, and you then bet 5% of this amount, (£7.50). Take the square root of any profit that exceeds the '£150' and add that to the stake, and so on. If the balance falls below the initial starting bank, the 'Bank' does not get reset to this amount. ie, the 'Bank' can never go down, only up.

Selection Stake Finished Winnings Balance
Start Bank     - £100.00
Horse #1 £5 2nd - £95.00
Horse #2 £5 WON @ 2/1 £10 £105.00

At this point, the current Bank, is higher than the 'Starting Bank' so we take the square root of the difference, and add this to the stake:

Current Bank £105
Start Bank £100
Difference £5
Square-Root of £5 £2.24
Next Stake £5 + £2.24 = £7.24

So we continue placing our new stake on the next horse.

Selection Standard Stake Total Stake Finished Winnings Balance
Horse #3 £5.00 £7.24 3rd - £97.76

Now, because the current bank has fallen below the Starting Bank, we go back to betting £5.

Selection Standard Stake Total Stake Finished Winnings Balance
Horse #4 £5 - WON @ 3/1 £15 £112.76

So now, we are back above the Start Bank, so we need to work out the Square-Root of our profit:

Current Bank £112.76
Start Bank £100
Difference £12.76
Square-Root of £12.76 £3.57
Next Stake £5 + £3.57 = £8.57

And so it continues:

Selection Calculation Standard Stake Total Stake Finished Winnings Balance
Horse #5 SQRT(£12.76) = £3.57 £5.00 £8.57 WON @ 9/4 £19.28 £132.04
Horse #6 SQRT(£32.04) = £5.66 £5.00 £10.66 4th - £121.38
Horse #7 SQRT(£21.38) = £4.62 £5.00 £9.62 WON @ 4/1 £38.48 £159.86

At this point, we have now increased our Starting Bank by more than 50%, so we need to reset the 'Starting Bank' to £150. This has 2 effects, our 'standard stake' now becomes £7.50, (5% of £150) and we now take the square-root of any profit that exceeds £150. This continues until we reach our new 'target' of £150 + 50% = £225.

Selection Calculation Standard Stake Total Stake Finished Winnings Balance
Horse #8 SQRT(£9.86) = £3.14 £7.50 £10.64 3rd - £149.22

The bank has now fallen below the 'new Start Bank' of £150, so we ignore any square-roots, and just use the 'standard stake'

Selection Calculation Standard Stake Total Stake Finished Winnings Balance
Horse #9 - £7.50 £7.50 2nd - 141.72
Horse #10 - £7.50 £7.50 3rd - 134.22
Horse #11 - £7.50 £7.50 WON @ 7/4 £13.13 147.35

Advantages
  • This plan builds money FAST, as long as you have a regular and frequent supply of winners.
  • As soon as you reach a 'target Bank' you can breathe a sigh of relief, as that money is safe, (relatively)
Disadvantages
  • If you don't get a regular and frequent supply of winners, your profits will be lost very quickly
  • It is a fairly complicated plan to understand and use, (use will need either calculator or a spreadsheet!). At Professional Racing Tips, though we work everything out for you.
  • You could end up losing money even if you have a regular supply of winners, if they are interspersed throughout the month.
  • You will need to hold your nerve with this plan, as the stakes rise rapidly!
Summary
  • Number of losing bets to halve the initial Betting Bank : 10
  • Number of losing bets to break the initial Betting Bank : 20
  • This is a MEDIUM RISK Staking Plan
